E. L. Boyer is a retired Registered Nurse, avid reader, and mystery author living in a quiet coastal golf community with her husband, Larry, and their two spunky pups—Lexi (a Maltese named after golfer Lexi Thompson) and Dixi (a Havapoo). When she isn’t writing, you can usually find her spending time outdoors by the pond, playing a game of Mahjong or Hand and Foot, or celebrating the occasional miracle on the golf course (including a hole-in-one on April 13, 2021!).

Turning Pain Into Purpose

Her journey into writing began in an unconventional way. On August 2, 2020, she woke up with a strange taste that soon developed into a painful, chronic condition known as Burning Mouth Syndrome. Navigating doctor visits, ENT appointments, and severe discomfort was exhausting, but in late 2021, she decided to channel her energy into something positive. Writing became her sanctuary—a way to focus her mind on storytelling rather than the pain. Out of that challenging season, her debut novel was born.

Behind the Stories

A lifelong passion for reading—combined with a deep interest in missing persons cases followed through true crime podcasts like Going West—inspired her plotlines. She never forgot the real-life disappearance of Mary Shotwell Little in Atlanta when she was fifteen, a haunting mystery that ultimately inspired the story behind her second novel.

Drawing from her nursing background, Boyer created her protagonist, Ally Malcom, an RN who relocates to the coast and stumbles into accidental sleuthing. Across her books, readers will find a core group of warm, down-to-earth characters who feel like real friends—the kind you’d love to invite out for lunch.
